Dr. Ilonzo is a distinguished Vascular Surgeon at New York Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where she serves as an attending physician specialising in both endovascular and open surgical management of vascular diseases. In addition to her clinical practice, she is the Director of Research for the Division of Surgery and served as an Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency. Dr. Ilonzo is also an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine.
Dr. Ilonzo earned her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College before pursuing her medical education at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. She completed her general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital.
With a deep expertise in the management of both acute and chronic arterial and venous diseases, Dr. Ilonzo is renowned for her proficiency in a wide array of vascular interventions. Her clinical focus includes arterial atherectomy, balloon angioplasty, stent placement, surgical peripheral artery bypass, aortic aneurysm repairs, venous insufficiency treatments, varicose vein management, dialysis access placement and repair, as well as carotid artery disease. Her skills in both endovascular and traditional surgical approaches have made her a leading figure in her field.
A prolific academic, Dr. Ilonzo has authored 55 manuscripts published in peer-reviewed journals, contributing valuable knowledge to the vascular surgery community. She is actively involved in several prominent committees, including the Medical Board Surgical Review Committee, the Eastern Vascular Society (EVS) Mentor Committee, and the EVS Diversity Committee, where she advocates for both clinical excellence and inclusive practices within the field.
Dr. Ilonzo’s leadership in both the clinical and academic arenas makes her a driving force in advancing vascular surgery and surgical education.
