Talk Description

Institution: Townsville University Hospital - QLD, Australia

Fasciotomy, a critical procedure for relieving compartment syndrome, often leaves significant soft tissue defects that can lead to poor cosmetic outcomes and functional consequences. Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix (BTM) offers a promising solution. It is a synthetic dermal template which requires a two staged approach. Stage one involves laying down the matrix whereas subsequent procedure involves coverage with a split thickness skin graft. In Northern Queensland, we present a case series of patients with fasciotomy wounds that have been managed using BTM. Post-operative follow-up indicates the use of BTM provided tendon protection, improves contour of a wound, increases graft take and minimises contracture formation.
