Presentation Description
Institution: Nepean Hospital - NSW, Australia
Colon adenocarcinoma is a well-studied surgical pathology in Australia with a streamlined treatment regimen. The known areas of disease metastasis include liver and lungs however there have been reports of unusual locations of disease spread including breast, thyroid, testes and ovaries which often leads to some changes in the treatment.
When a surgeon is confronted with a case of a mucinous adenocarcinoma with axillary metastasis diagnosed by FDG PET/CT and confirmed with biopsy, how does this affect their treatment approach? Here we have an 83-year-old female who presented to her general practitioner with a subacute presentation of dizziness, unwellness and change in bowel motion. The focus of our presentation will be the surgical and oncological treatment of our patient, analysis of micrographs and a brief literature review which reveals our case as the first reported in Australia.
