Professor Thomas J. Musholt

Professional Bio
Thomas J. Musholt, FEBS-Endocrine Surgery, is an appointed Endocrine Surgery Professor, Section Head Endocrine Surgery, and Deputy Chief of Surgery at the Dept. of General-, Visceral-, and Transplantation .Surgery, University Medicine Mainz in Germany. He received his academic surgical education at the Medical School Hannover with Rudolf Pichlmayr and Henning Dralle, intermitted by a two-year molecular biology research period at the Washington University St. Louis, USA (with Sam Wells and Jeff Moley). He is specialized in the surgical management of advanced (neuro)endocrine tumors of thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals and paragangliomas, as well as pancreas, liver and gut, including tracheal/esophageal resections, extensive lymphadenectomies and large vessel reconstructions in neck and abdomen, skin flaps to cover large defects etc. Prof. Musholt is President of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons (ESES) and leads the accreditation committee of ESES. He is founding member, President elect and Chairman of the data management group of EUROCRINE (European Registry for endocrine tumors). Prof. Musholt is Past-President of the German Society of Endocrine Surgeons (CAEK) and served on the Advisory Board of the Thyroid Section of the German Society of Endocrinology (DGE). He is an active ESES, AAES, IAES, ETA and CAEK member, and a European Board of Surgery Qualification (EBSQ) examiner for Endocrine Surgery. Prof. Musholt actively contributed to and authored various national and international Guidelines and Recommendations in the field of Endocrine Surgery.
