Dr Shabnam Islam
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
Professional Bio
Transplant surgery fellow based in Perth, Western Australia, with interests in transplantation, surgical culture, implementation science, and the use of artificial intelligence to support better clinical decision-making. Her work sits at the intersection of idealism and pragmatism: asking why good ideas in surgery so often fail to translate into everyday practice, and how barriers within systems, teams, and culture can be understood — and changed. Today, she presents the VFIT score: exploring how transplant care, implementation challenges, and emerging AI tools may help us move from knowing what should happen, to actually making it happen.
