Ruben Kannan is an award-winning consultant plastic surgeon, trained in the UK, with a doctorate in nanotechnology from University College London and additional diplomas in otolaryngology head & neck surgery as well as legal medicine. With over a decade of experience in facial reanimation and deformity surgery, Ruben currently leads the largest and most advanced facial palsy service in the UK: The Queen Victoria Hospital Facial Palsy Unit. His contributions to date include the world’s first free functioning muscle transfer for mastication, Fibonacci-sequence flaps, the Motor End-Plate Innervation (MEPI) concept, intra-oral vascularised nerve flaps, ultrasound-guided Botox, Sural Communicating Nerve (SCoNe) flap and the ‘M-point’, a new classification for the sigmoid smile.
