My name is Teresa @ Phue Pwint Hmwe and I am a fifth-year medical student at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) with a strong interest in surgery, particularly upper gastrointestinal surgery. In 2025, I completed an Honours research year, examining long-term outcomes between routine and selective fundoplication during hiatal hernia repair, with emphasis on recurrence and reoperation rates. I am currently involved in a research study examining inter- and intra-surgeon variability in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. I serve as the Secretary of the UNSW Surgical Society and as the UNSW Ambassador for the Australasian Students’ Surgical Association.
