In 1996, Professor Hall became the John Mitchell Crouch Fellow in recognition of early career excellence in research: he subsequently received major grants from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia. Professor Hall served terms as Chairman of the Division of Surgery at Royal Perth Hospital and Head of Surgery in the University of Western Australia. He became the initial Dean of Education and initiated the College’s evolution from a credentialing body into an educational institution. In 2012 Professor Hall was awarded the Sir Louis Barnett Medal for ‘outstanding contributions to education, training and the advancement of surgery’.
