Professional Bio
Chris is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon based in Te Tai Tokerau and an Honorary Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Auckland.
Chris was trained in general and colorectal surgery in the United Kingdom and completed a fellowship at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital. He was appointed at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire as a consultant in 2009 and moved to New Zealand in 2015 to take up a post in Whangārei.

He has a broad clinical interest with specialist expertise in colorectal surgery and major trauma surgery.

He has extensive experience and expertise in clinical leadership and is currently the Director of General Surgery, Innovation and Transformation, and Research in the Te Tai Tokerau locality. Chris is also the Clinical Lead for the Northern Region Trauma Network, which develops effective trauma services for the Northland and Auckland regions. He sits on the National Trauma Network and chairs the National Trauma Data and Insights Ropu.

Chris is a leader in general surgical research, developing and delivering collaborative surgical studies across New Zealand. He leads the general surgical research and master’s programmes in Te Tai Tokerau, focusing on enabling early years researchers and delivering meaningful outputs for the locality.
