Professional Bio
Professor Brian Lang is currently the Clinical Professor at Department of Surgery, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He served as the chief of endocrine surgery at Queen Mary Hospital from 2007 to 2024.
 
He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from University of Sydney, Australia with distinctions in Medicine and Surgery. During his fellowship training, he obtained a Master of Surgery (MS) from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) with a thesis titled “Cancer Staging in Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma”.
 
He has written extensively and has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed international journals. His H-index is over 50. His clinical and research interests include thyroid carcinoma, thyroid nodules, hyperparathyroidism, adrenal tumors, multiple endocrine neoplasia and neuroendocrine tumors. He serves as an editor at the World Journal of Surgery.
 
He has received many awards including the International Travelling Awards in 2005 and 2009, the International Guest Scholar from the American College of Surgeons in 2012 and the James IV travelling scholarship in 2015. He is an honorary fellow of the Korean Association of Robotic Surgeons (KAROS).
 
He has been a pioneer in using various ultrasound-guided thermal ablation techniques (such as radiofrequency ablation and microwave ablation) in the treatment of benign thyroid nodules, low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and Graves’ disease.
