A/Professor Amal Abou-Hamden is a senior consultant neurosurgeon with subspecialty expertise in paediatric, vascular, epilepsy, and skullbase surgery. She completed her neurosurgical training in South Australia and Victoria, before undertaking advanced post-fellowship training in paediatric, epilepsy and vascular neurosurgery in Toronto, Canada. She is the Vascular Neurosurgery Lead and Director of the Neurovascular Surgery Fellowship Program at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Senior VMO at Calvary Adelaide Hospital and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide. She has led multiple innovations in Australia including minimally invasive cerebrovascular surgery and established cerebral bypass surgery in South Australia. She serves as an Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, as a board member on a number of RACS committees, the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia, and is Immediate Past Chair of RACS in South Australia. She is committed to clinical excellence, innovation, positive workplace culture and mentoring the next generation of surgeons.
