A/Prof Varey is a Plastic & Reconstructive surgeon, specialising in surgical oncology. Based at Westmead Hospital, Sydney since 2017 he has an academic appointment with the University of Sydney as a Clinical Associate Professor, where he is the Director of Surgical Research. He is also a Faculty member of the Melanoma Institute Australia and leads the melanoma risk prediction tools website www.melanomarisk.org.au that is widely used around the world.
